"Why We Thugs": Question

Thu, Nov 18, 2010 at 5:18 AM

If anyone could tell me what Cube means when he says "There's boys in the hoods, there's toys in the hood" in "Why We Thugs", it would really help me out!!!

(I'm doing an English presentation on the song regarding its social commentary and poetic devices used)

Thanks!

When he says "there's toys in the hood" im pretty sure he means guns...almost every guy in the hood would have a gun the same way a baby would have a toy...and murders in the hood are a common thing so he doesnt use a serious word but instead replaces it with toys. thats what i feel

I didn't think so deep into it but I thought it was simply that if you're slangin' and you are making some money, you're going to buy some "toys"... It could be cars, a nice gun, a bike, a new phone, or something that shows off that you got some money...
