History: The U.S. Women's Open is Not LPGA TOUR co-sponsored. This event began in 1946 and is the longest-running event currently on the LPGA Tour. It is one of the LPGA's four major championships.

In 2011, So Yeon Ryu defeated fellow South Korean Hee Kyung Seo in a three-hole playoff to capture the 2011 U.S. Women's Open conducted by the USGA at The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs.

So Yeon Ryu birdied the final hole of regulation, then defeated Hee Kyung Seo in a 3-hole, aggregate-score playoff to win the 2011 US Women's Open. Seo bogied the second playoff hole while Ryu birdie it, essentially sealing the outcome. Ryu, 21 years old, entered the tournament ranked No. 40 in the world. The win was her first outside of Korea.
