Album Reviews for I am the West

I have been checking the net for reviews of Cube's new CD and there have been alot of negative reviews. I listen to my copy again and I think they might have gotten the wrong CD. All the negative review are base on two issues. One the new CD doesn't compare to the classics (AmericKKK's Most, DC, Preator, Lethal Injection) and I will agree to that however Cube is not the same person, or artist he was back then. His music should be judged on where it is now and if it is good or not NOW not based on his past works.
The second thing is keep reading is that he is not "gangsta" anymore because he did Are we there yet? I think this is the dumest reason to down grade this CD. One doesn't even relate to the other. The Gov. of California was the Terminator. Cube was playing a character in a movie so leave that out of your thinking.
The one positive I can take from all of the negative is that most of these people hold Cube in high regard, and have high expectation for his music as I do and everyone on this site does. With anything people will like it or hate it but I think if you are going to give a review then take it at face value. My personal review of the album is 3.5 out of 5. I think the filler on this CD would have been tracks by Dre if he didn't flake on Cube. And as for the "good doctor" he can make time for dipset but not Cube??? Just saying.

As with any artist, some albums are better than others. Everyone has ups & downs. I like I AM THE WEST and appreciate the work put into it. I would like to see a CD put out with Cube, Snoop, Dre, WC, Em, and a few others. I personally know about change as you get older. I don't do the things I use to do and now that I survived all that, I appreciate my family and my work. Ice Cube's a smart and talented individual in all aspects of his work. I liked all his CD's & movies. He earned his respect. Thank you. Peace, T.

I agree with you, no one should be doing the same shit they were doing 25 years ago; if they are they have not grown.

If Ice Cube would have remained in that same little "I am just a rapper box" he would have never explored his talents in Acting, Producing and Directing. Peple always thinks we have sold out because we have interest in things other than the norm.

Cube I am proud of you keep up the good work and I am glad to see growth in your music.

I'm too tired to write right now but I agree with you... People tend to calm down when they get older. I always hear that "Are We there Yet? BS also... Anyway, I've noticed that a lot of people who hate on "I Am The West" aren't even from the west coast... They ain't from here and they're experts on the west and what people are listening to out here... I don't listen to it myself but a lot of people listen to "South" sounding music out here, Cube even said it on one of his interviews... So, that "south" sound does have relevance on "I Am The West" even though it's not my thing. On another note, I was like WTF when I heard about the Dipset Dre thing... Since Dre flaked out on his album, I think Cube just had to keep it moving and put it out... So, here's my thoughts on the album... I say 3 out of 5 also... I wished some of the songs were longer, I wished that them dope bonus tracks were included on the CD, and I think the album flows better with my own track list that I put up... I just couldn't listen to the original list...
