I AM THE WEST

I AM THE WEST...is the name of my new record. After completing about 65% of my music, this is the perfect title. This shit is cocky, no apologies, West Coast gangsta shit. I can't help it. That's what I do. June seems too tight for a release, but July is very doable. We'll see how things go. Now that I have my title, I can work on the concept of my photoshoot and artwork. I want to provide early merch before the drop date.

For 7 or 8 years now the West Coast has been trying to do music that appeals to the South and Mid-West. The words, "too West Coast" would be heard throughout the industry whenever our music was played. Even by our own dj's. Left coast MC's were now trying to change their sound to cater to all the followers. We lost our way. Thank God for b-boys like Snoop, The Game & WC for keeping the West alive, but we were all guilty of over reaching. No more. At least not from me. I do it how I feel it; not how I think it should be done. Radio fucked us up. I hate the politics at radio. I don't know who to pay to get my shit played. Having a hot song is not enough. Ridiculous.

I AM THE WEST. It's coming....

Keep It Gangsta

I'd never thought I'd say this, but thank you for helping save hip-hop. I grew up in Australia but was into West Coast from the moment I heard Rhyme Pays by Ice-T. It was a long time before you toured Aus but even when you did it was still hard to get a hold of anything Hip-Hop worthy. A friend of mine put me onto NWA... I liked it but not as much as I liked Ice-T, Boo Yaa, Paris etc... My best friend was a huge Cube and PE fan. I have to say that I liked your music but didn't like some of your lyrics back in the day so I always rated you lower... I guess time enlightens us all. You are hip-hop, you lasted when others fell. I apologise for not truly appreciating you earlier. I have all your singles / albums - always have just cause I was a West Coast Hip-Hop fan, but now I cherish my Cube collection as opposed to just owning it for completeness sake. I'm a director at a major investment bank and I'm based in Singapore now. I order my VPs to listen to 'Gangster Rap' as it's what educated me growing up - some 'get it' others do it cause I'm the boss, as I see it, it's my responsibility to promote the movement. Financial Independence - it's a precursor to true freedom.

Do you still keep in contact with Ice-T? Seriously as a true fan of the West Coast, it would be better than great to see you two together - trespass was not enough. You both represent the two different sides of the WC - AND you're both independent so no record label headaches...

Hey Cube ! First off, let me say thanks for this blog of yours : its sounds real, and it feels good to know you're taking time to give your fans some thoughts about the music industry.

Since you're honest with us, I'll be honest myself. I miss the old school 'Cube : don't misunderstand me, I really like LNCL and Raw Footage (especially tracks like Why We thugs, Smome Some Weed, Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It, It Takes A Nation, Tomorrow), but I do miss the funny interludes, as well as the super fast flow from Amerikkka's Most Wanted and Death Certificate.

In a perfect world, I would love to hear more old school soul samples on your records (Stand Tall was great !). That's the main problem I have with hip hop these days : it's all about loud beats and bangers which all sound the same. You deserve better than that : after all, you're Ice Cube, you're a rap legend !

As Nas said, Hip Hop is pretty much dead. But YOU might resurrect it with a great new record.

Been waiting for this, your last two albums made every other rapper look stupid, i was surprised at the prouduction in it aswell, som of them beats were fuken crazy...aslong as you dont have auotune, candy beats and rnb hooks ill be happy but knowing you, ull never fall off.....heres a question, whats up with you dre and ren...especially dre, one of teh biggest things in hip hop id liek to see is you givin dre a call and gettin a few beats or even collabs out of him, you goin solo on a modern dre track would be crack, i dont understand why not, both you always sayin how you been busy with other shit - i know that aint tru, so seriously, games in with him right now so give game a call if u hav to and get hooked up with the math...i can guarantee you, the fans would go absolute fucken crazy if that happened, i know i would....you got the best lyrics from the west, hes got the best beats, create the fucken anti christ!!

man, i didn't even know there was a new ice cube site. this shit is dope. even doper is the fact that ice cube himself is actually blogging on it.
needless to say, when i found out about a new cube album dropping this summer, my eyes lit up like a kid on xmas. i'm glad that you haven't put the mic down, cube. dudes like scarface, nas, and you are the reason i still believe that hip-hop is a powerful tool when done correctly.
i also have to salute you for being a real nigga when you came to cleveland on the ''laugh now, cry later'' tour. gotta picture with you that my mom took from me. lol!! i'll upload it to my avatar when i get a chance.
anyway, like i said, the site is heat and thank you once again for still caring enough about hip-hop to want to contribute to it. as long as you make albums, i'll BUY them. peace.

I was born in 1986, I never saw in person the NWA, AmeriKKA, Death Certificate or Predator days, but I don't listen to any new music these days other than that old school stuff. That's how badly the music industry has declined, how badly Hip Hop has fallen off.

I've got no problems with artists making songs to be heard on the radio, but when they genuinely change themselves to be heard on the radio, that's wack. I mean look at someone like Jadakiss, his lyrical game and flow could have made in Hip Hop's best days, but no today. So what does he do? He feels to sell, he has to change his style, which is what he did. He sold well too, but his album was poor...it just wasn't Jadakiss. That's such a shame, because Hip Hop heads missed out on 15 potentially great songs. That's what artists feel like they HAVE to do though to feed their family.

Cube, if you read this, I plead for you not to have too many features, any album that has more than 4-5 features overdoes it. Look at Jay-Z's BPIII, the media liked it because it was so commerical, but that album was dogs wor, but that's Jay-Z, and I'm not a hater so I'll leave this alone.

I hope Cube you can include one or two non West Coast artists as well. Everyone would kill to hear you and Nas on a song, I mean who wouldn't want to hear the King of the East with the King of the West, and Nas speaks almost the same way you do in relation to your blog. It's almost identical. I hope you include Crooked I as well, he's the most underrated artist in Hip Hop let alone the West, and he's been very respectful towards yourself and NWA.

Also another thing, because I was never a fan of his music until lately, there's the great white American hope, Eminem. Coming up in southside Queens, I never connected with Eminem's music. However, seeing his performance in the game last year, he almost brought back real Hip Hop on his back, he carried an album without any radio singles because he didn't care and he destroyed artists that challenged him, that is the Lil Wayne's, Kanye's and Drake's. Cube, you gotta do something with Dre and Eminem. I don't want to die without ever not hearing a track with you and Eminem. A Dre beat, heck even a plain beat with Ice Cube and Eminem saliva like delivery? Heaven.

Been down since Dopeman! And loved the last two albums, in fact I would like to use Hood Mentality for an informational podcast geared toward the lost youth. Powerful song, just need permission, how can I contact your staff?
Will the new record be a concept like Death Certificate and Raw Footage? You're a lyrical documenter, Michael Moore be damn!

    Peace.
